Second worst day ever

This morning, I took a treasured friend to have a surgery that she needed, even though she wasn't 'sick' in the traditional sense. She didn't have a disease, or a tumor, or anything like that. I had no way of telling her what I was doing, taking her out into the December West Michigan cold at 7:30 in the morning, before the sun even shows its face. She had no way of asking me, what was I doing? Why this strange turn of events? The fright and terror she must have felt showed in her eyes, in the look on her face. I had no way of telling her, "You didn't do anything bad; I'm doing this because I love you, because I want you to be healthy and happy for a long time to come." After signing some paperwork I left the vet with a heavy heart, even though I know my kitty, Pasha, will likely be okay. She's only going to be gone about 24 hours or so, but it's going to seem like an eternity.

It's a really shitty way to start the day, as if getting up three hours earlier than I'm used to isn't bad enough.

And it's only going to get worse: today I return to work after having a 10-day vacation, and besides the fact that I was up at 6:30am, besides the fact that my best friend is getting cut open to have her uterus taken out, now I also have to face the readjustment of getting back into the work regimen. Wednesdays are difficult for me *anyway*, on my regular schedule; this will probably be the worst Wednesday I can remember in a long, long time. This will definitely go down as the worst day this month, quite possibly this year. No; this will be the second worst day this year. The *worst* day this year was Tuesday, May 11th.

But just like May 11th, I will get over this day too. Hopefully, being at work will make the time go by fast and take my mind off things. I guess I have no choice; I just had 10 days off, I doubt very much the boss will look too kindly on me calling in sick now!

Although I bet I will want to call in sick tomorrow, when I pick up Pasha from the vet.

This day sucks. This day sucks ass. This day sucks hairy, shit-crusty, disease-swollen, old-man ass.
