Avian Wildlife Biologist Job Details

Sapphos Environmental, Inc. is currently recruiting for a full-time Avian Wildlife Biologist to support our outstanding team of professionals. The ideal candidate will be detail oriented; have a professional demeanor; strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in fast-paced environment and be a dedicated team player.

Position Responsibilities:
• Research: Must be able to research peer-review professional literature and grey literature. Demonstrate familiarity with wildlife literature and resources related to Southern California, including Endangered and Threatened species.
• Writing Skills: Must be able to provide written input to technical documents and reports, such as biological resource sections of Environmental Impact Reports, and biological resources technical survey reports, and proof read out going documents.
• Should be able to describe existing conditions, wildlife observed and their habitats, determine project related impacts and design mitigation.
• Field Work: Must be able to design and implement field surveys for wildlife including amphibians, reptiles, birds, mammals, and common arthropods. Must be able to read and utilize topographic maps, aerial photographs, and use a G.P.S. unit. Must be able to write field notes.
• Professional: Should be a Member of, or eligible to be a member of at least one professional scientific organization.

Minimum Requirements:
• Master's degree in Biology, Zoology, Wildlife & Fisheries Biology, or other related degree, or a Bachelor's degree and 4 to 5 years of experience as Wildlife Biologist with experience in environmental consulting or regulatory agency work required.
• Must be familiar with the ESA, CEQA and/or NEPA.
• Must be knowledgeable of Southern California wildlife and have a basic knowledge of the most common plant communities of southern California.
• Riverside Fairy Shrimp or other Federal 10 (a) permit or California CDFG MOU a plus.
