I don't understand it, and yet I do understand it. Sure, I sit here at the computer until almost 4am sometimes, but for the love of crumbcake, if there's breaking news then I'm already here, they wouldn't have to call me in. And that did happen once -- I was sitting here on the computer and we had news of an Amber Alert, and I wound up staying until almost 5am. Everybody was quite appreciative of the fact that I was already here.
Furthermore, I don't *usually* make online purchases, although I have been known to. But the purchases I've made have been books and CDs, and pretty tame material too. I'm not sitting here looking at pornographic websites -- I'm not *that* stupid -- and I'm not looking at websites that have lots of pop-ups.
In any event, I just think this whole turn of events is mighty interesting. I just read a one-year-old article in Good Housekeeping about five days ago, about the surveillance techniques employed by employers to spy on their employees. It was actually a good thing I did, because it made me appreciate more just what a privilege I have to be able to access the internet at work the way I can. And goodness knows, I certainly have been taking some liberties with that privilege.
So I guess this is the end of an era. This totally changes how I'm going to spend my tax refund money now. Now, getting a PC has been bumped to the top of the list. I want internet access from my own home, where no one will be spying on me.
Thank you, corporate, if you're reading this -- thank you for making me appreciate my privacy and re-ordering my priorities.
P.S. Please don't fire me. Pretty please? :) I'm a good employee, and I *LOVE* WOOD TV-8/WOTV/WXSP/WZPX!!!! I especially *LOVE* Lin Corporation! You guys are the best! I never want to work anywhere else, because Lin Corporation treats me very well. Lin Corporation lifted me out of darkness; Lin Corporation is the reason I get up in the morning. Lin Corporation is my sun and my moon, my earth, rain, wind and fire ... without you, I am simply nothing. If you tell me you don't want me anymore, why, I don't know what I'll do. I'll probably just be reduced to wandering the earth aimlessly, wearing a sign proclaiming, "I wasn't good enough for Lin Corporation".
I would do anything for you, Lin. I would die for you. If anyone speaks badly of Lin Corporation, I'll punch them in the nose... er, no, did I say 'punch them in the nose'? Ha, ha, that was just a little joke! "Punch them in the nose", like, in my mind. What I meant was, if anyone has anything bad to say about Lin Corporation I'll defend you to my death. I'll tell anyone who says anything bad about you, "You don't know what you're talking about! If you knew Lin the way I know Lin, you'd love Lin too!"
