Ah, love, sweet love!

Oh, I just can't help myself! I swoon under the spell of St. Valentine's Day! What a great invention. All the pink, and red, and heart-shapes, and oh ... how can you not be swept away by it? I *love* Valentine's Day; I can't believe there used to be a time when I didn't like it. I'm glad I'm over disliking it, because it has to be the best holiday of the whole entire year. Yes, even more than Christmas, although not quite as much as Easter (I'm a very big fan of new beginnings, moreso than the commercial vomitola [thank you, heartofarsenic!!!] that Christmas has turned into. American culture hasn't raped Easter quite the way it's done Christmas, so yes, I like Easter better than Christmas, as of this writing. And more than Valentine's Day too, although Valentine's Day runs a close second).

St. Valentine's Day is a day to celebrate love; sure, romantic love seems to be the popular choice, and while that's very nice, to me Valentine's Day is an opportunity to reconnect with your own personal definition of 'love', whatever it may be. Reflect upon it; if you don't have it in your life, why? And what can you do to reclaim it? (Here's a hint: you're not very far from it! ;) )

If you do have it, rejoice, and don't hide it under a bushel! Spread the love! That's what love is for: sharing. I guess that's why I like it so much. If you have something to share -- and what better than love -- then you can connect with another person. And that is grand...

And I have to say, I think I love L.A. jazz. There is something so ... carefree about it, I dunno. It's almost like if the Pacific Ocean had a voice, it would come out sounding like L.A. jazz artists. It conjures up expansive coastlines, waves crashing on craggy-rock beaches, the kind of temperatures that let you wear the least amount of clothing, sultry nights poolside, and freedom like the ocean-ripe air that caresses your face, freedom, sweet, blessed freedom, the kind of freedom that bears you up like the wind beneath a seagull's wings, freedom: that's what love does. It sets you free...
