Make a difference. Don't ask questions; there are human beings right here in the United States of America who are suffering in ways the rest of us only have nightmares about, because of the hurricane known as "Katrina".
I, personally, can relate to feeling weak when it comes to lending a helping hand. Before I could extract my head from out of my arse this past December/January, when the tsunami hit Asia and Africa, I started hearing news reports that the Red Cross had reached their donation goals, and any other donations would be put to other, non-tsunami-related disaster clean-up efforts. I felt like such a heel. I thought, how many times could I have given of myself -- and didn't?! All I could do was look at all the donations made that I wasn't a part of.
This is not about getting recognition for being generous. This is about doing the right thing. If you've spent your entire life wondering when the opportunity would come along for you to do the right thing, wonder no more: the time is now.
The following link will enable you to make an anonymous, financial donation, but not all of us can make financial donations. To find out how you can make another kind of donation, go to the Red Cross's website, or better yet tune into your local news outlets or radio stations to find out about opportunities to donate supplies like bottled water, blankets, personal hygiene supplies such as toothbrushes, soap, etc.
Every little bit helps. Do not for a moment think that whatever you can contribute is "too small", or won't be used. It will be used. Be a part of something you CAN make a difference about! Do it now, not because it's expected of you, but because it's the right thing to do.
Even if your donation does not actually go to help victims of Hurricane Katrina, be assured it *WILL* help somebody else in need down the road. We're not out of hurricane season yet, you know, not to mention whatever other disasters may present themselves.
If you want something to feel good about ... I GUARANTEE pitching in now will do it!!!
